Twitter can serve a purpose
Twitter is one of those interesting websites that only a small part of the Internet knows about it.
Some time ago I got a tweet from one of the people I follow telling me about a missing child, with a link with more info. I, of course, tweeted it myself to help get the word out.
I thought that is was a great idea that Twitter can actually serve a purpose. It can be used for something besides just micro-blogging what people are doing.
I was listening to a podcast and found out that there is an Amber Alert page on Twitter. What a superb idea. The only thing is that there are only a few hundred people signed up with it. If you have a Twitter account, please visit http://twitter.com/amberalert and follow them. So, anytime that this page posts a tweet, everyone who follows it can re-tweet it themselves and spread the word.
The Internet is becoming the standard way of communicating. People don’t watch television as much anymore, and the newspaper isn’t as up-to-date as the web, so this is the best way to get the word out on importants matters like a missing child.
I’m hoping that this is the beginning of something big for Twitter. It’s great to see people thinking of different ways to use websites out there. I’m hoping that Twitter will take this Amber Alert concept and go with it and come up with other great ideas to use their site.
Wow I never knew that, but now that I do, I’ve followed it and spread the word too.
Thanks. We really need to get the word out on that account. I wish Twitter would start telling people about it. The power of the Internet can go really far, especially on sites like Twitter.
