The joys of autumn
I haven’t experienced autumn since 1992.
Granted I lived during that season between summer and winter, but haven’t experienced the leaves changing colors in over 16 years. Well, this weekend it seemed like the leaves all decided to change at once. Last weekend, when we were out and about, the leaves were starting to change but not a lot of them had. This was the weekend that they all changed!
My son was excited that he could finally jump into a pile of leaves. Since he wanted to do it so badly he was willing to go out in the back yard and rake them up himself.
The sun was out and it was a nice 58 degrees outside. The only problem was that all the leaves were near the fence and that was in the shade, and there it was 10 degrees less. Being the adult, I wanted to stay in the sun while the rugrat went over there is the shade to get the leaves. He must’ve spent a good 20 minutes, with his grandma raking up a nice size pile.
Needless to say, it didn’t him that long to put the rake down and jump into the pile.
It’s amazing how much fun he can have with just a pile of dead leaves. He backed up all the way to the other side of the yard and ran, with all his might, into the pile he created.
After a good 10 minutes of jumping into his creation, he had to have dear old dad get involved. He wouldn’t give me a chance to breathe. He knew how to burn me out by just playing in a pile of leaves!
Even when I was done playing with him, he still kept going. It’s amazing how a five year old can keep himself amused for such a long time without any computers or toys to keep him going.
This day was my first true day of autumn.
