Until Sunday evening, I had thought of LeVar Burton as the host of the long running PBS show Reading Rainbow. (Yes, I know he did other things, but this is the thing that I always associate him with.)

Things changed on Sunday night when I heard him on This Week in Tech. He’s a very knowledgeable person when it comes to electronics. Throughout the entire 90 minute podcast he held is own against the likes of John C. Dvorak, and that’s not an easy feat to achieve. At first, I expected him to be a celebrity who was going to give generalised comments about the stuff he saw there, but the moment he began to speak he blew my mind! When he described the TVs; what he likes about each of the models, using technical terms (talks about “crushing the blacks”) and stating the model names just about made made me speechless. Throughout the entire show he would discuss current tech events and even go into indepth reviews of cameras.

All in all, he was a very personable guest on the show and was very comfortable with the other people on the show.

To follow up with the show, I found out that LeVar joined the Twitter community just after the holidays. I immediately followed him and started looking at his tweets. He’s very comfortable with Twitter and puts up very knowledgeable tweets. It’s great to see someone of his stature using Twitter himself, and not through someone else, like other celebrities do. Please follow him at www.twitter.com/levarburton. Trust me, it would be worth it.

After my experiences with him online in the last 48 hours, I would love to have the opportunity to meet him in person. I don’t think he would make anyone feel intimidated around him.
