My obsession with an Italian plumber
.
My son got a Nintendo DS for Christmas and it came with the New Super Mario Bros Game in it. And I realised something. That is one of the few games that has great replayability. A few weeks ago Bwana McCall mentioned on his radio show about the greatest video games of all time and Super Mario Bros was at the top of that list, and I have to agree. For years, I’ve played that game, from everything to the 8-color low-res Nintendo version to the emulator version for the PC now to the handheld update of it.
Like I said before I think that the reason this game is addictive is because it has a high replayability factor. The main objective of the game is to beat the evil Bowser and rescue the princess, but the game isn’t over when you do that. There are so many other things that you can do. I love the fact that there are hidden exits on many of the levels that allow you access to other parts of the maps. Also, each level has three large coins that you can collect and use to purchase access to other areas of the map.
So, this game isn’t just one game, it’s actually three games in one.
I’ve always been obsessed with trying to finish the game 100% and this version is no exception to the rule. It’s a great way to waste a few free minutes. Try to beat a level and if I can – great, if not – I’ll try again later.
With games nowadays trying to have better, life-like graphics with online-multiplayer gameplay, Mario shows us that sometimes the simplier things last.
